Fig. 06 — What it costs

Our rates, in public.

Every rate we charge is on this page. You should not have to ring a studio and sit through a consultation to find out what an hour of tutoring costs — so here it is, along with what changes it and what doesn’t.

I. By tutor, not by subject

Three tiers

An hour of calculus and an hour of essay work cost the same. What moves the price is who is teaching it. These are not good, better and best — they are three different jobs, and the one your child needs depends on what you are trying to fix. Rates are per hour, online.

Junior

$125/ hour

Undergraduates a few years into tutoring, teaching within their own subject.

Right for

On-grade work: keeping up, filling the gaps left by a bad term, and getting to the point where homework stops being a fight. This is the right place for most students to start.

In this tier

  • Leah Livin
  • Alina Dydyk

Mid

$175/ hour

Graduates and specialists with a longer record, teaching through to advanced coursework.

Right for

Advanced and college-level material, or a student who is doing fine and wants to be doing well. Also the tier to ask for when the subject has moved past what a generalist can carry.

In this tier

  • Samantha Yershov
  • Jared

Senior

$225/ hour

Certified teachers and postgraduates with many years in front of students.

Right for

When there is a date and a number attached — an exam to sit, a score to reach — or a student who has been stuck long enough that you want someone who has seen it before and knows where the points go.

In this tier

  • Ella
  • Maggie

Every session is online, one-to-one, and the rate is the same wherever your student is. There is no travel surcharge and no catchment area — a tutor in Miami teaching a student in Brooklyn costs exactly what this page says.

II. Monthly, not hourly

Memberships

Tutoring works on a rhythm, so we bill on one. A membership is a block of sessions a month at a lower rate than booking them one at a time — and it is the arrangement that actually moves a grade, because the work carries over week to week instead of restarting.

Four sessions

$600/ month

4 sessions · $150 each

One a week, the usual starting point.

Eight sessions

$1,150/ month

8 sessions · $143.75 each

Twice a week, or a single subject worked hard before an exam.

Memberships are arranged over the phone — .

III. Before you pay anything

The guarantee

A free diagnostic.

The first sitting is a free diagnostic — scored and read back to you section by section, with no obligation to book anything.

A good-fit promise.

If your first session isn't the right match, tell us and we'll pair you with another tutor at no charge.

We don’t give away free sessions. A free hour tells you almost nothing about whether a tutor is right for your child, and it is paid for somewhere — usually in the rate everyone else is charged.

Start with the diagnostic.

It costs nothing, and it is the only honest way to tell you what the work actually is.
